The American Journal of Preventive Medicine just released a study showing that children who have a television in their room have an increased risk of becoming obese than those who watch television in the family room. The kids who have a TV in their room tend to watch more television, and screen time is linked to higher rates of obesity. However,
the study showed that it is not just the hours of television watched that makes kids fatter. Those with a TV in their room had higher levels of belly fat, higher triglycerides and a higher risk of developing heart disease and diabetes than those kids who had roughly the same diet and physical activity, but watched television in a common room of the house.
