Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States. There are many risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity. Lifestyle changes and treatment of risk factors can help prevent and manage the disease. According to a recent study in Circulation, there has been increased awareness and progress to reduce smoking, to increase physical activity, and to promote diet changes. However, there is still room for improvement. In fact, one out of three adults do not exercise, 43% of American have high cholesterol levels, and 69% of adults are overweight or obese. It is the New Year – it is time to eat right and get back into shape!
