Don’t Use Diet Soda As An Alcohol Mixer

The journal Alcoholism conducted a study comparing alcoholic vodka drinks using diet soda versus regular soda as a mixer. They found that participants who consumed the beverage with diet soda had a higher breath alcohol content and behavioral impairment than those with regular soda. This suggests that the drink is more potent when mixed with diet soda. This is probably because of differences that occur during digestion. When food enters your stomach, it delays stomach emptying and it takes longer for the alcohol to get into the bloodstream. Diet sodas do not have any calories or sugar, and therefore do not delay the alcohol from entering into the bloodstream.
