B Vitamins Do Not Prevent Alzheimer's Disease
A new review published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that B vitamins don't reduce cognitive decline during the aging process. People with Alzheimer's tend to have high levels of homocysteine; therefore, since folic acid and B-12 both reduce homocysteine levels, it was hypothesized that these B vitamins could reduce Alzheimer's Disease. Unfortunately, the research does not show that these B vitamins can prevent Alzheimers. Instead, lifestyle changes, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising, and controlling weight and blood pressure can lower the risk.
