Alcohol Tied to 1 in 10 Deaths Among Adults in US
According to the CDC, excessive drinking is associated with 1 out of every 10 adult deaths in the US. There are at least 54 conditions linked to alcohol and mortality, including acute pancreatitis, psychosis, esophageal, oral, and breast cancers, suicide, drowning, falls, chronic liver disease and motor vehicle accidents. Binge drinking - which is defined as 4 or more drinks for women and 5 or more drinks for men in one sitting - is responsible for 51% of excessive drinking deaths. The study was published in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease.
