Americans Are Still Making Poor Health Choices

The US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention just released their report outlining the lifestyle choices of Americans. They found that 6 out of 10 adults drink alcohol, 20% of adults smoke (and less than 50% attempted to quit last year), and only 1 in 5 adults met the guidelines for both aerobic and strength training exercises. Additionally, 6 of 10 people are overweight or obese. These unhealthy behaviors lead to increased rates of heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases. While these findings are disappointing, there is some good news; American are meeting the federal requirements for sleep.
It is important that Americans promote healthy eating and active living. We have the power to improve our health through personal choices and changes in lifestyle. Otherwise, the rate of chronic diseases with go through the roof and healthcare spending will increase exponentially.
