New Study Questions Safety of Excessive Coffee Drinking

A new study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry investigated how chlorogenic acid (CGA), which is a polyphenol found in coffee, could impact health. They found that mice that were given 5-6 cups of coffee per day had increased glucose intolerance, increased insulin resistance, and increased fat storage. However, they did find that coffee in moderation - about 3-4 cups a day - appeared to help with fat loss, decrease blood pressure and decrease the risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The take home message: all things in moderation.
