Are Eggs Bad for Cholesterol

Eggs have long since gotten a bad reputation of increasing blood cholesterol levels and most conventional doctors advise their patients to avoid eggs. Eggs contain cholesterol, however, some research suggests that the cholesterol in eggs doesn’t increase the cholesterol in your body. In fact, in 2020, the American Heart Association stated that healthy people could eat one whole egg daily and older adults could eat two eggs daily.

Instead, it seems that saturated and trans fatty acids have a much higher impact on blood cholesterol levels and increased cardiac risk. Changes to decrease cholesterol should include reducing saturated and trans fat, limiting dairy products made from whole milk, decreasing friend foods, limiting red meat and increasing fruit and vegetables. Losing weight, reducing alcohol and increasing exercise also help lower blood cholesterol levels.

Eggs are a great source of protein, vitamin B2 and B12 and some studies show it can actually lower the risk of heart disease. As with all food, it is important to have a varied diet and not to eat the same foods every day. But if you have a history of cardiac disease, you do not need to avoid eggs. They can be incorporated into your diet.
