Bee Pollen for Menopause
Premenopausal and menopausal women often experience a range of symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep problems and weight gain. These issues can interfere with quality of life, and millions of women each year look for a solution. Some supplements geared towards menopausal symptoms contain bee pollen, which has been shown to regulate hormones and improve symptoms.
Bee pollen is a ball of pollen collected from flowers and combined with nectar, wax, enzymes and bee secretions such as saliva, and used as the primary source of nutrients for bees. It is not the same as honey, royal jelly or honeycomb. Bee pollen contains vitamins, minerals, lipids and carbohydrates and has antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Studies show that taking bee pollen may decrease symptoms associated with menopause. For example, women report better mood, improved sleep, and fewer hot flashes. It also may help improve cholesterol, increase immunity and prevent diseases like diabetes and cancer.
Bee pollen can be purchased as granules or supplements at a health food store or from a beekeeper. Make sure it is pesticide free.
