Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
A new study published in BMJ's Journal of Epidemiology found that eating 5 servings of fruit and vegetables per day is indeed the magic number to strive for. Evidence shows that consuming 5 fruits and vegetables decreased the risk of heart disease and cancer. Interestingly, this particular study did not find additional benefits above 5 portions while previous studies disagree with this finding and say that up to 7 servings show increased benefits. However, the majority of Americans are not eating anywhere near this much produce! Despite knowing that fruits and vegetables affect cancer and heart disease death rates, most people do not eat enough. They cite lack of time, cost, difficulty changing habits, h and lack of motivation as their reasons. There is no magic pill for longevity; if we fill our bodies with the nutrients it needs, we live longer, healthier and more productive lives. Remember that the next time you pick up a potato chip!
