GMO LABELING BILL INTRODUCED

Senator Barbara Boxer from California and Representative Peter DeFazio from Oregon have introduced a bill which requires that all genetically modified food be labeled so that Americans can make informed decisions about what they eat. The bill has been assigned to a congressional committee, which will determine if it is sent to the House or Senate. The bill is called the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know-Act, and it would require clear labeling for genetically engineered whole foods and processed foods, including fish and seafood. Currently, genetically modified foods can be marketed without labeling. The chances of passage are uncertain at this juncture.
