Obesity Rate On The Rise
The 2013 Gallup poll found that the adult obesity rate in the US increased from last year. The obesity rate is now 27.1% and appears to be on an upward trend. Bottom line: Americans are not getting the message about the risks of obesity! On Tuesday, the American Medical Association officially recognized obesity as a disease. This will most likely change the way our general population perceives obesity (defined as a BMI of 30 or higher) and may potentially affect both doctor treatment and insurance coverage. On a positive note, this may bring new resources to the general public. However, there is a risk that Americans will start relying more on complex and expensive medical treatments and procedures rather than just focusing on diet and exercise.
