One-Third of Americans are Obese

Obesity is common and costly in the United States, with annual medical costs about $147 billion dollars per year.  According to the Society of Actuaries, the combination of health costs plus loss of productivity due to obesity was actually $270 billion a year.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) released its 2012 statistics, which are essential unchanged from the data collected over the last 10 years. The prevalence of obesity varies amonth states and regions and socioeconomic status. It is bafflng that the obesity rate has not declined in a decade, considering the amount of attention focused on obesity and chronic diseases.  It seems that the widespread availability of low-cost, high-caloric food is more powerful than exercise and healthier options. Our society needs to learn how to make healthy choices and create and environment where health is paramount.Don't be a statistic! Get to the gym on a regular basis and make sure to choose healthy snacks and entrees for optimal health.
