Explore Elderberry

As the cold and flu season starts, and with COVID still on the horizon, it is important to explore how to boost our immune system to stay healthy this winter.  One supplement  to consider is elderberry, which is a plant with flowers and berries that are  high in vitamin C, B6, iron, and potassium. It also has many beneficial phytonutrients and antioxidants, such as quercetin, rutin, phenolic acid, and anthocyanins.Some of the benefits of elderberry include improvements in the common cold and flu, sinus issues, nerve pain, allergies, chronic fatigue, inflammation, and constipation. Additionally, some evidence shows it decreases blood sugar and improves heart health, and decreases cancer. Elderberry is sold  in syrups, juices, tea, wines, jams and supplemental pill forms. It is best not to eat raw elderberries since they may cause GI upset.While no one supplement can guarantee health, adding elderberry to your regime may help keep flu, colds and COVID at bay.
