Link Between Alcohol and Cancer

The American Journal of Public Health published a study showing the association between alcohol intake and cancer. According to the study, alcohol is responsible for about 20,000 deaths per year in the United States. As much as 60% of these deaths were attributed with heavy drinkers, who consumed three or more drinks per day. However, moderate drinkers, who had 1.5 drinks (or less) per day, were associated with up to 35% of the deaths.The research showed that alcohol was responsible for 3.5% of all cancer deaths in the US per year. For women, alcohol has the highest link with breast cancer, while for men, cancer of the mouth and throat showed the greatest amount of alcohol-related deaths.
