A Pill for Celiac Disease on the Horizon

The Journal of the American Chemical Society just published a study showing that a new enzyme, called KumaMax, may one day be a new treatment for Celiac Disease. The enzyme was 95% effective in breaking down the gluten into much smaller pieces in a test tube. These smaller pieces are much less likely to cause the autoimmune response of Celiac Disease and all the digestive issues associated with it. The hope is to create a pill similar to Gas-X, which can be taken before each meal.  The trials are in its infancy and will take a few years to develop.
