Why We Love Ginger
Food is medicine. Countless studies show us how eating well benefits every system in the body. The more nutrients and antioxidants one consumes, the more equipped the body is to fight disease and inflammation. One of my favorite anti-inflammatory roots is ginger, which is used in both ayurvedic and traditional medicine.Ginger has been shown to benefit the GI system by decreasing nausea and vomiting, aiding in motility, improving indigestion, and fighting bacterial and fungal infections. Some studies show that is help with stomach ulcers as well. Other research shows that ginger protects against cancer, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and improves immune function.Ginger can be taken in many forms. It can be eaten fresh or bought as a dried herb. Fresh ginger can be juiced, infused, mashed, or cut and put in food and drinks. Commonly, ginger is added to water or tea to aid in digestions.
