Nightshade Sensitivities
Nightshades are vegetables in the Solanum family that contain alkaloids, such as solanine, capsaicin and nicotine. Some people with auto-immune issues, allergies, inflammation, or leaky gut may be sensitive to vegetables in the nightshade family.
The most common nightshades are potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes and potatoes. Others in this family are okra, paprika, ashwagandha, cayenne pepper, goji berries, sorrel and tomatillos.
Every individual is different and each food should be looked at individually. However, if you are experiencing GI issues, heartburn, joint pain and nerve sensitivities, it might be a good idea to eliminate nightshades to see if you experience any relief.
