The Great Gallbladder
The gallbladder is an often overlooked organ which is imperative for adequate digestion. The main function of the gallbladder is to store bile, which is produced in the liver. Bile is used to break down and emulsify fats in the small intestine. If you have abnormal gallbladder function, this may inhibit your ability to break down fats, decrease the absorption of fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids, and cause dysbiosis and toxicity.
Some common symptoms indicating gallbladder dysfunction include difficulty digesting fatty meals, gas in the lower bowels several hours after eating, light colored stool, floating stool, dry or flaky skin, and burping up fish oil.
To improve gallbladder function, choose a diet high in fiber and lean protein. Beets, artichokes and dandelion greens have been shown to be help with detoxification and improve bile flow. Avoid fried foods, sugar, high fat meals, processed foods, and conventional dairy.
