Manuka honey is a special type of honey produced solely in New Zealand from the Manuka bush. It has antibacterial properties and is high in antioxidants, vitamins and enzymes. It is has been shown to be better than conventional honey. Research shows benefits for relieving GI issues such as SIBO, IBS, IBD and reflux and improving acne and skin conditions. Additionally, it is anti-microbial and helps ward off bacteria and microbes. It may also help treat wounds and ulcers.

There is a grading system for Manuka honey called the UMF (unique manuka factor) which measures the antimicrobial strength of the honey. A rating of 10 or over is ideal, and over 15 is superior. One to two tablespoons per day of Manuka honey will give the most benefits.
